Transitional Housing

As part of our goal to carry on the legacy of support and hope for those less fortunate, VVC has constructed transitional housing projects which offer a safe environment where veterans are supported in their efforts to overcome a variety of obstacles. By providing an effective network of services, veterans are connected to: employment and training programs, counseling, and legal services. These programs were developed by veterans to help veterans build better lives for themselves, their families, and our communities. The agency has 80 beds in operation, and 46 in development.

"The VVC homeless program empowered me to again become whole. The case management approach in the supportive housing program allowed me to begin breaking what I thought were unbreakable barriers."

Employment Counseling & Training

One of the agency's most successful employment training programs is "Winning the Employment Game" (WEG). This program focuses on helping individuals achieve results by providing a personalized career exploration and job-search program. With a 90% success rate, "WEG" graduates attain jobs they want.

In our efforts to strengthen our employment training programs, VVC also offers comprehensive placement services by providing clients with:

  • Job Leads
  • Resume Preparation
  • Informational Resources
  • Interview Preparation

"Take this class - you will learn about yourself, how to set goals, and get the job you want."

Alcohol/Drug Recovery

The Sacramento Veterans Resource Center's Jon Oberg Center is a 22-bed alcohol/drug social recovery model project established in 2005. This state certified program compliments our comprehensive slate of supportive services with beds also available for non-veteran residents.

VBOC

Humanitarian Efforts

Our commitment to service has enabled us to take our humanitarian efforts to other parts of the world. In 1997, to serve the impoverished people of Vietnam, VVC opened a health Clinic in Luong Son. In 2002, partnering with the East Meets West Foundation, VVC built a school. Principle liasons to the works in Vietnam have been Anh and Jim Larson, and Dr. Le Thi Ngoc and her staff.

VBOC

Schools

In cooperation with the East Meets West Foundation, Rotary International, the Nhuan Trach villagers and the ongoing support of Ahn and James Larson, VVC built a new school in Nhuan Trach, Luong Son District, Hoa Binh Province. The new facility replaced a dilapidated and substandard school builiding and now provides safe and sanitary classrooms for over 473 children.

Vision Project

For three days in October, 2000, the Vision Project (a program of the VVC) offered free eye examinations and eyeglasses to villagers served by the Clinic. Dr. Les Shipley, an optometrist from Santa Rosa, lead the project. Dr. Shipley has participated in similar vision projects in Guatemala, Haiti, and Mexico.
